Picture for representational purpose. The Indian School of Business (ISB), with campuses at Hyderabad and Mohali, will roll out the Management Programme in Public Policy (MPPP) for high-performing executives from the government, public and private sectors this year.
The programme has been developed and will be delivered by the ISB's Bharti Institute of Public Policy in collaboration with its partner School, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, US, and ISB's Centre for Executive Education.
The programme is targeted at mid- and senior-level executives from all-India civil services, state government officials, public sector officials, multilateral agencies, embassy personnel, Indian and international non-government organisations, elected office-holders, as well as private sector players including multinationals and individual entrepreneurs.
With a course fee of Rs 12.5 lakh per annum, this one-year course will have six semesters, and the inaugural batch size will be between 30 and 50. It will follow the structure of an executive MBA where participants can continue working and will have to clear six semesters taking place every two months at ISB's Mohali and Hyderabad campuses, besides online modules.
Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB, said ISB doesn't want too many of anything. "Candidates from the private sector will require five years of work experience to be eligible to apply for this programme, while government officials will have to be nominated by the Dept. of Personnel and Training (DoPT)."
He said the Narendra Modi-led new government is not the trigger to introduce this programme at ISB. After setting up its Mohali campus two years ago, ISB has been in talks with senior bureaucrats, industry leaders and the partner schools for some time now. MPPP will include online sessions, assignments, experiential activities, which can be implemented during the course tenure itself as it's for working professionals with a rather more practical focus, taking it beyond just the management perspective, Rangnekar added.
A management programme around public policy, however, is not new in India, as the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, already have a similar programme, Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Public Policy and Management.
ISB is also planning to introduce another programme in manufacturing at its Mohali campus soon.
