Google's doodle celebrates yoga guru BKS Iyengar's birthday

Google on Monday is celebrating yoga guru BKS Iyengar's 97th birth anniversary with an animated doodle.

The doodle designed by Kevin Laughlin, shows an old man identical to Iyengar, who is seen doing various yoga 'asanas'.

Iyengar is credited with bringing the yoga to the western world and is said to have students like Queen Elizabeth of Belgium and Sachin Tendulkar.

He introduced his own style of yoga called 'Iyengar Yoga'. "His style-Iyengar Yoga-is characterized by tremendous control and discipline, which he exercised in ways not limited to confoundingly long headstands," said Google.

The yoga guru was named amongst the 100 most influential people by Time magazine in 2004. He was a recipient of multiple awards including, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan. He died at the age of 95 in 2014 in Pune due to heart and renal failure.
