Bumble now lets users add 30-second audio prompt to dating profiles

Audio Prompts will let people add a voice recording to reveal more about their personalities. Bumble says users can add prompts of up to 30 seconds long.

Story highlights
  • Bumble hopes that its new tools will let users showcase their personalities better.
  • Its rival Hinge already offers audio prompts.
  • This is Bumble's major update since launching badges last year.

Bumble, the women-centric dating app, has launched audio prompts and videos that people can add to their profiles. As the names suggest, Audio Prompts will let people add a voice recording to reveal more about their personalities. Bumble says users can add prompts of up to 30 seconds long. On the other hand, videos on profiles can be used instead of the main photo and users can even mute the audio. Both Audio prompts and videos are already available on rival Match Group's Hinge app.

Although the features are pretty straightforward, Bumble hopes that its new tools will let users showcase their personalities better. It may also allow users to know about others before they swipe right. However, the audio and video prompts oftentimes lead to light banter online, as there are parody Instagram pages that curate some of the most cheesy audio prompts available on these dating apps. Bumble's audio and video prompts may meet the same fate.

Speaking more about the development, Samarpita Samaddar, India Communications Director, Bumble said in a release, "Dating has changed significantly over the past couple of years with people wanting more dynamic ways to express themselves and get to know each other. You can better showcase your personality now by recording an audio response to prompts or by uploading a video to your Bumble profile. Whether these features are used to show how to properly pronounce our names, share a great story, highlight what we care about, or just get a laugh, we believe they will lead to more genuine matches and better dates."

How to add audio prompts to your Bumble profile:

-To add audio prompts, go to 'Edit Profile' and select 'Profile Prompts'.
-Select one of the audio prompts to add your response.
-To start recording, hold down the microphone icon at the bottom of the screen.
-Once you've finished, you can hear your recording and choose to save or re-record.
-Click 'Save' to add your audio prompt to your profile.

How to add videos to your Bumble profile:

-To upload a video, go to 'Edit Profile' and upload the video as a new option in the photo uploader.
-From the uploader, you can adjust and select any segment of a video for up to 30 seconds.
-After you select a video, you can select a frame from the video as the cover that you would like to appear on your profile.
-Video can appear as the main profile photo or secondary photo with an option to mute or unmute.

This is Bumble's first major upgrade since the company introduced Badges last year. The dating also allows users to make in-app calls - saving them from sharing WhatsApp numbers or Instagram handles immediately.
