Pixel phones are known for their superior camera prowess, and this year's Pixel devices are expected to be no different. While the specifications of the two upcoming phones by Google - Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, are already out, recent speculation hints at new features for the cameras on the devices.
It is being hinted that the larger of the two Pixel devices - Pixel 6 Pro, will come with an ultra telephoto camera. This camera will enable up to 5X ultra tele zoom on the smartphone. The option will even reflect on the Camera app through a dedicated button, just like the 1X and 2X we see right now.
The information comes from a teardown of the latest version of the Google Camera app. As spotted on Google Camera v8.3.252 by XDA Developers, the new Google Camera update includes references to an "ultra tele" zoom toggle.
A new line mentions the feature, with an id - "zoom_toggle_ultratele" followed by the text "5x". This suggests that the new 5X zoom option will appear in the viewfinder on the Pixel 6 Pro.
Note that there is no direct mention of the upcoming Pixel smartphone in the code. It was, however, found that the "real" optical zoom level of the telephoto camera mentioned in the update may be 4.3X. In comparison, the "real" optical zoom level on the Pixel 4 is 1.6X.
It is thus speculated that the new feature will be brought on for the flagship device on the Pixel 6 series. It has already been hinted that the said smartphone will feature a triple-lens camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary shooter, a 48-megapixel telephoto lens and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The ultra tele zoom can thus very much be supported by the bumped up cameras.
As for other information on the Pixel 6 series, it is known that Google's own Whitechapel chipset will power them. In addition, they are expected to feature AMOLED displays with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. Google might also bump up the memory and the battery offerings on the devices.
The expected prices of the two phones stand at Rs 55,000 for the regular Pixel 6 model, while the Pixel 6 Pro might mark its debut in India at Rs 65,000.
