The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has expressed serious concerns regarding the electrical systems of Boeing 787 aircraft operating in India. In an email to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Captain C.S. Randhawa, President of FIP, called for a thorough inspection following a recent incident involving a Boeing 787 (VT-ANO) on a flight from Amritsar to Birmingham. During the flight, the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deployed unexpectedly at a low altitude, despite all systems being reported as functioning normally. Although the aircraft landed safely, experts consider such an event unprecedented. FIP has demanded comprehensive checks on all Boeing 787 aircraft to prevent any future accidents. Meanwhile, Air India has grounded the aircraft pending investigation.
The DGCA’s Directorate of Air Safety has initiated a formal probe into the incident. An officer from the Directorate of Air Safety (Northern Region) has been assigned to lead the investigation. Boeing, the manufacturer of the Air India 787-8 aircraft, is also involved in analyzing the uncommanded deployment of the RAT on flight AI 117, which took off from Amritsar on October 4.
