Gautam Adani visited the new Navi Mumbai International Airport ahead of its inauguration on 8th October, offering a first glimpse of India’s next major aviation hub. During his walkthrough, Adani interacted with construction workers, engineers, women staff, fire fighters, artisans and differently-abled colleagues, acknowledging the collective effort that brought the airport to life. The airport recently received its Aerodrome Licence from the DGCA, clearing it for operations. Developed as a 74:26 joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) and CIDCO, NMIA will initially handle 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tons of cargo annually, with full completion expected to accommodate 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo. The project, costing Rs 16,700 crore, aims to reduce congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport while meeting India’s growing demand for air travel. Maharashtra CM Fadnavis has described NMIA as being “many times bigger” than the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, setting a new benchmark for the country’s aviation infrastructure.
