On August 5, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Jaya Bachchan once again raised an objection in Rajya Sabha when Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called out her full name 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan', labeling it a "new drama" in Parliament. Bachchan expressed her pride in her husband Amitabh Bachchan's achievements but emphasized her discomfort with being identified solely by her husband's name. In response, Dhankhar explained the provision for changing the name on the election certificate. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar humorously addressed a related query. This incident followed the SP MP's earlier objection on July 29 to being addressed as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan" by Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh during House proceedings. Bachchan objected, saying, "Sir, only Jaya Bachchan would have sufficed," stressing her unease about women being identified only by their husband's names as if "they don't have their own identity. "Despite her objections, on August 2, Jaya Bachchan referred to herself as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' on the floor of the House. This introduction evoked a priceless reaction from Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar, who burst out laughing, highlighting the ongoing debate over women's identity in Parliament.
