Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman rejected claims that Make in India has turned into merely “Make for India,” citing strong outcomes across key manufacturing sectors. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, she said India has emerged as a net exporter in electronics, pharmaceuticals, engineering goods and defence. Highlighting the electronics sector, she noted that production rose from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014–15 to ₹11.3 lakh crore in 2024–25, while exports jumped from ₹38,000 crore to ₹3.27 lakh crore. The FM also pointed to a massive expansion in mobile manufacturing, with units rising from just two to around 300 over the decade. Mobile phone production surged from ₹18,000 crore to ₹5.45 lakh crore, and exports climbed from ₹1,500 crore to ₹2 lakh crore, underlining the global scale of India’s manufacturing growth.
