Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has confirmed that India and New Zealand are close to finalising a landmark Free Trade Agreement, calling it a major step toward deeper economic cooperation. Goyal emphasized that the deal will benefit farmers, fishermen, small businesses, and key sectors including technology, defence, agriculture and education. He noted that India and New Zealand are not competitors, but partners who can expand trade together and contribute to global economic growth. Negotiations, held in a spirit of “respect and accommodation,” have resolved most issues, with only a few finishing points remaining. Goyal highlighted that the FTA will play a meaningful role in India’s long-term growth vision, supporting the journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
