External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to launch India's campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028–29 term. While the election will take place in 2027, New Delhi has begun an intensive diplomatic outreach to secure the required two-thirds majority in the UN General Assembly. India faces competition from Tajikistan for the Asia-Pacific seat amid an increasingly polarized global landscape shaped by conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Beyond winning a Council seat, the campaign reinforces India's long-standing push for UN Security Council reforms and a greater role in shaping global governance.
