In an exclusive conversation with India Today Group’s Preeti Choudhary, Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe flagged concerns over hospital pricing, medical device markups and regulatory lapses. A Maharashtra FDA survey found wide gaps between procurement costs and printed MRPs, including an IV infusion set procured for around ₹11 but carrying an MRP of ₹325. Mundhe also spoke about lapses linked to Mondegar’s legacy, highlighting violations and the need for corrective action. He said establishments must address regulatory shortcomings to regain licences where applicable. From medical device pricing to compliance, Mundhe’s exclusive conversation puts the spotlight on hospital transparency, trade margins, licensing and patient costs.
