India and Germany have elevated their strategic partnership with a raft of high-impact agreements signed during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s first official visit to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor Merz unveiled 19 memorandums covering defence co-production, semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy, skills mobility and technology cooperation, signalling a deeper tech, security and economic bond. Both leaders also reaffirmed support for an early India-EU free trade agreement. The visit featured cultural diplomacy, including a tribute at Sabarmati Ashram, underscoring shared values. With growing geopolitical uncertainty, the expanded cooperation aims to build resilient supply chains and future-ready industries.
