India’s Semiconductor Mission 2.0: $13.5 Billion Push For Chip Ecosystem

Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India’s next phase of semiconductor development at Semicon India 2026, saying the country is working across chip design, manufacturing, equipment, materials and testing capabilities. He said the first phase of the Semiconductor Mission was around $8 billion, while the second phase has been set at up to $13.5 billion. The government is also enabling international companies to collaborate with Indian startups, design companies and OCI-owned companies. PM Modi highlighted the push for fabless companies, domestic intellectual property, compound semiconductors and silicon photonics, while stressing the need to strengthen India’s semiconductor supply chain.
