“Major Food Crisis” Ahead? Jaishankar Flags Global Food, Fertiliser And Energy Pressures

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has warned of mounting global pressure on food, fertilisers, energy and finance, which he described as interconnected challenges facing the Global South. He pointed to disruptions affecting grain exports from the Black Sea region and fertiliser supplies from major producing regions, including the Middle East and Russia. Jaishankar also cited the impact of El Niño on food security and said conflicts can redirect capital towards safer markets, putting financial pressure on developing economies. He stressed that policymakers must consider how their decisions affect countries beyond their own, as multiple disruptions can create wider consequences for the global economy.
