Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun his three-day State Visit to Seychelles with a grand ceremonial welcome in Victoria. During his visit, PM Modi met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, interacted with Jonathan—the world's oldest living land animal, an Aldabra Giant Tortoise believed to be around 194 years old—and reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening ties with the island nation. Modi will attend Seychelles' Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations, address the National Assembly, and hold key bilateral talks focused on maritime security, defence cooperation, and the Indian Ocean Region. The visit is expected to further India's 'Neighbourhood First' and MAHASAGAR vision while deepening its long-standing partnership with Seychelles.
