What was once viewed as a straight DMK versus AIADMK battle has transformed into a multi-cornered political fight shaped by shifting alliances, regional caste equations, anti-incumbency concerns and the emergence of actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The Assam election is being viewed as a critical political test not just for the state but for the BJP’s broader Northeast strategy. A strong BJP victory would reinforce the party’s expanding influence in eastern India.
In the 2021 Assembly election, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 75 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 64. The opposition “Mahajot” alliance, led by the Congress, won 50 seats.
While the ruling BJP-led NDA remains the frontrunner according to most exit polls, the real political story may emerge from these razor-edge contests that could shape the future of Assam’s politics.
The contest is no longer just a straightforward DMK-versus-AIADMK battle. Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the revived AIADMK-BJP alliance, and shifting caste equations have made several seats politically crucial.
In the 2021 Assembly election, Mamata Banerjee's TMC secured a decisive victory, winning 213 of the state's 294 seats and returning to power for a third straight term
West Bengal Elections Results: Most exit polls have projected an edge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with seat estimates ranging between 140 and 192. The majority mark in the 294-member House is 148
Kerala's assembly election results will be announced on May 4. Exit polls suggest a tough contest with the UDF likely to unseat the decade-long LDF government.
Kerala Election Results 2026: Among the seats that will be closely watched are Dharmadam, Nemom, Palakkad, Aranmula, and Peravoor
Among the key candidates whose fates will be sealed in this phase are Amit Shah (Gandhinagar), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Vidisha), Jyotiraditya Scindia (Guna), Pralhad Joshi (Dharwad), Basavaraj Bommai (Haveri), and Badruddin Ajmal (Dhubri).
