RBI governor Raghuram Rajan.Within hours of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presenting Modi government's maiden Budget that focused a lot on infrastructure development, the Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan laid out the plans for funding infrastructure development. Speaking at a function organised by FICCI Ladies Organisation, Chennai Chapter Rajan said the RBI will soon come out with new ways of scheduling long-term loans.
That apart, efforts will be made to build better project evaluation skills in banks. This, the governor said, was critical as much of the bad debts in the system were on account of poor structuring of the projects. Efforts are also on to deepen the debt market so that banks wanting to exit long term debts can do so by selling out to infrastructure funds, he added.
