2G scam: Reliance Telecom moves SC on Anil, Tina Ambani summons

Reliance Telecom Ltd (RTL) has moved the Supreme Court challenging an order summoning ADAG Chairman Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani as prosecution witnesses in the 2G scam case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam, before whom the matter was mentioned for an urgent hearing, agreed to hear the case and posted it for July 24 before an "appropriate bench".

The Supreme Court has restrained all other courts, including the high court, from entertaining any plea arising out of 2G scam case.

The trial court investigation the case had on July 19 allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) plea that the testimony of the business leader and his wife may throw light on alleged investment of over Rs 990 crore by his group companies in Swan Telecom, facing trial in the case along with its promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka.

The investigating agency had alleged that RTL used Swan Telecom, an ineligible firm, as its front company to get 2G licenses and the costly radio waves.

Along with RTL, an accused in the case, three top ADAG executives are also facing trial in the case.
