Bharti launches mobile wallet service in Delhi-NCR

Airtel has established partnerships with several merchants (including coffee shops, restaurants etc) to accept payments via Airtel Money across over 2,200 merchant establishments in Delhi NCR.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Wednesday launched its 'Airtel Money ' service, which will allow its subscribers to pay for groceries, bills and other dues through their mobile phones, in the city.

"We are delighted to introduce Airtel Money in Delhi-NCR - a convenient and secure way of making payments through the mobile platform. We're excited about bringing the experience to our eight million mobile customers in Delhi-NCR and look forward to transforming the way the city transacts," Airtel M Commerce Services CEO Sriram Jagannathan said.

The company has already launched Airtel Money in Gurgaon and Chennai earlier this year.

Customers can load cash on their Airtel mobile phones from Airtel retail outlets and use the cash to make payments.

Airtel has established partnerships with several merchants (including coffee shops, restaurants etc) to accept payments via Airtel Money across over 2,200 merchant establishments in Delhi NCR, including utility providers like NDPL, BSES Yamuna, BSES Rajdhani, Indraprastha Gas and LIC.

The company has also announced a joint venture with State Bank of India to provide banking and financial services to unbanked Indians using the mobile platform.
