Rupee gains 20 paise in early trade

The rupee appreciated 20 paise to Rs 44.22 a dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade on Monday on surging capital inflows.


Besides, dollar's weakness against major currencies overseas, also supported the rise in the Indian currency, dealers said.


The rupee had ended 23 paise lower at 44.42/43 in the previous session.


Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex surged 211.01 points to 20,461.27 points in early trade.
