Raanjhanaa, the Dhanush-Sonam Kapoor starrer love story between a Muslim girl and a Hindu boy, had a decent opening at the box office with collections topping Rs 5 crore.

According to Boxofficeindia.com, the Anand L Rai-directed movie started slowly but picked well from the afternoon with poor competitors in 'Enemmy' and 'Shortcut Romeo'.

The film also features Abhay Deol and Swara Bhaskar in important roles.

Produced by Eros International, the film is also being released in Tamil as 'Ambikapathy'. However, the Tamil version will hit the cinemas next week.

Trade experts said Raanjhanaa is doing very well at multiplexes outside the metros, especially in places like Indore, Kanpur and Varanasi, where the film's storyline is based.

Pundits say the film can do well if it improves further over the weekend but the budget is pretty high for such a non-face value cast.

'Raanjhanaa' would have to ride high on critics' reviews, which lauded the film for its storyline, performances and AR Rahman music, as well as word-of-mouth publicity.
