Cases of Delta Plus variant

 

The Delta Plus variant has become a variant of concern and has already spread to 18 districts in India. National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Director Sujeet Singh informed that 50 cases of Delta Plus variant have been recorded in 18 districts of India. The variant is more transmissible. It is also resistant to the monoclonal antibody cocktail treatment for COVID-19. India is among the 10 countries where the Delta Plus mutation has been found so far.

Serum Institute starts production of Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax

 

Vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII) on Friday said it has started the production of first batch of Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax at its plant in Pune. Earlier this month, Novavax Inc said its vaccine candidate 'NVX-CoV2373' demonstrated 100 per cent protection against moderate and severe disease, 90.4 per cent efficacy overall, and met the primary endpoint in phase-III trials.

Centre plans to face COVID-19 third wave with Rs 20,000-cr cheque

 

The government is planning to contain or minimise the impact of a possible third wave with an Emergency Covid Response Preparedness (ERCP-2) package of more than Rs 20,000 crore. This comes amid multiple reports suggesting an impending third wave. The government is aiming to prepare in advance for another possible wave.

Now, swab samples from phone screens can detect COVID-19

 

Scientists have developed a low-cost and non-invasive method that can unerringly and swiftly detect COVID-19 with the help of the samples collected from the screens of smartphones. Researchers from University College London (UCL) in the UK examined swabs from mobile phone screens instead of directly from people using the approach known as Phone Screen Testing (PoST).
