Best car launches of 2011

The year 2011 saw many car launches that witnessed record breaking bookings. Continuous rise in fuel prices, higher interest rates and a dismal economic condition failed to deter the automotive sector to go ahead with the launches. Take a look at the some of the launches during the past 12 months.

HYUNDAI EON

Hyundai Motor Co launched its entry level compact car Eon, developed specifically for the Indian market in October this year. The Eon is priced between Rs 2.69 lakh and Rs 3.71 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Priced between Rs 6.75 lakh and Rs 9.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Czech car-maker Skodalaunched its mid-sized sedan Rapid in India. The car to be available in both petrol and diesel variants will be powered by 1.6 litre engine.

RENAULT FLUENCE

French carmaker Renault launched its luxury sedan 'Fluence' in India with both petrol and diesel options, priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 14.40 lakh (ex showroom Delhi). Petrol variant of the Fluence comes with a 2 litre engine while the diesel option is powered by a 1.5 litre engine.

NISSAN SUNNY

Japanese auto major Nissan launched mid-size sedan Sunny in September this year. The 1.5-litre petrol engine car is priced at Rs 5.78 lakh for the base model and Rs 7.68 lakh for the top-end model (ex-showrooms in New Delhi). The 10th generation Sunny is based on Nissan's popular V- (versatile) platform.

NEW MARUTI SWIFT

Maruti Suzuki India launched the new version of its premium hatchback Swift at an introductory price ranging from Rs 4.22 lakh to Rs 6.38 lakh. The new Swift is available in both petrol and diesel options. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre K series engine, while the diesel version has a 1.3-litre engine.

Priced between Rs 10.8 lakh and Rs 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), auto major Mahindra & Mahindra launched its global sports utility vehicle, XUV500. Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the XUV500 has a six-speed transmission and is also available in a four-wheel drive variant.
