LG begins sale of world's 1st curved OLED TV
LG Electronics, South Korea's consumer electronics giant, has begun selling its curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV - the first in global industry.

The company began accepting pre-orders for its 55-inch Curved OLED TV in South Korea through more than 1,400 retail stores of the company, with deliveries to start next month, according to an e-mailed statement.

"Our Curved OLED TV is not only the proof of LG's unmatched leadership in next-generation displays but also a testament to LG's commitment to bringing to market the most exciting TV technology available today," said Havis Kwon, chief executive of LG's home entertainment division.

The premium TV, priced at 15 million won (around $13,500), would give LG a significant lead in the OLED segment that was expected to grow to 7 million units by 2016, the company said.

After spending more than five years on research for the optimum curvature, LG developed the industry's very first curved screen that is equidistant from the viewer's eyes. The technology eliminated the problem of screen-edge visual distortion and loss of detail, the company said.
