Reddit bans groups sharing explicit images of celebrities

Reddit has banned controversial groups that have been a hub for leaked explicit images of celebrities over the past week.

The images have more than 250 million views.

A report by Guardian said the ban follows mounting criticism that Reddit was facilitating the humiliation of Hollywood actors Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst and super model Kate Upton among other celebrities.

A Reddit statement said that the ban would not solve the problem entirely but mitigate the crisis.

The notice board added that it has complied with legal requests under copyright law to not allow the posting of the stolen images.

Reddit CEO Yishan Wong said he sympathised with the victims of the stolen images but that Reddit would not change existing site content policies.
