First few hours with Toshiba Portege Z830, world's lightest Ultrabook
Nandagopal RajanThe Toshiba Portege Z830 Ultrabook is so light that you will often be checking inside your backpack to ensure you haven't forgotten the computer. At 1.12 kg, this is undoubtedly the lightest Ultrabook in the world, maybe also the thinnest.

But then this is not an Ultrabook for everyone, the price will make sure of that.

Toshiba has always had a loyal clientele among the corporate community and this one too seems aimed at them. How else do you explain an ultra sleek laptop that carries almost all the connectivity ports that you would need and an SD card reader for good measure.

The ports, except for one USB 3.0, are all on the rear, along with the fan grill. The thicker VGA and LAN ports have been accommodated inside the leg stumps and that is indeed a good touch.

Gadgets & GizmosThe Matt A4 keyboard is well spaced out and not very plasticky. Above it are the power as well as connectivity and screen control buttons. On the touchpad, the click buttons flank a fingerprint reader. Just below at are tiny LED indicators for power, charging, network and the like.

The 13.3-inch HD display comes with LED backlighting, but we though the bezel on the sides were a bit too thick and killed the aspect ratio of the screen a bit. Toshiba's Audio Enhancement Technology is clearly audible in the speakers, which are loud for their class.

This Ultrabook sports an Intel second generation Core i5-2557M processor. So the two-second resume actually takes just two seconds. However, the device carries a very top management price of for Rs 96,290.
