Two years since Google acquired Motorola, the wait for the first Android smartphone from this partnership has finally come to an end. And
the result is something special.
With Samsung dominating the Android market, competing only in terms of specifications would not have been so wise. That could be why both companies thought out of the box while designing the Moto X. For a change, this phone focuses on experience over hardware or performance.
Moto X will try and cash in by
letting the user customize, or shall we say design, their own phone. They will be able to choose the looks of their phone from front and back panel colours to the amount of storage they want. While the phone will be assembled and delivered within four days, users will have the option to send the device back if they don't like its looks.
But there is more to Moto X than sheer customization. This phone will actually respond to you and you just have to talk to it. A microphone is always ready to take commands and you wake up the phone from the sleep mode by saying, "Ok, Google Now". Continue with your commands and the Moto X will comply with them all. Looking beyond the traditional way to access notifications, the phone's information display also turns on when you pick it up or take it out from the pocket. Complete notifications that can be launched by dragging the finger.
With smartphones replacing digital point-and-shoot cameras, it was the need of the hour to click with one instantly. But we continue to miss capturing some instant moments in the effort to unlock the phone while launching the camera. But this is set to change as the camera on the Moto X will fire up with a simple shake whatever it was doing till then.
The experience of the Moto X isn't now available on any of the flagships, be it the Samsung Galaxy S4,
Apple iPhone 5 or the HTC One. But if you wish to own one, there is a long wait awaiting as with Motorla's departure from India, the phone is unlikely to be launched here. Let us hope Google decides to bring it in.
