Highlights

  • Thousands of PlayStation players have reported the issue.
  • Popular games like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and Rocket League are some of the games that are experiencing this issue.
  • Online games on PlayStation 5 are also on the down.

According to the official PlayStation Status website, parts of the PlayStation Network (PSN) are down and experiencing issues. More specifically, the PlayStation Status website relays word that Sony is aware that PS3, PS4, PS5, and PlayStation Vita players are having "difficulty launching games, apps, and network features." And according to the support page, these problems have been going on for several hours, and right now, there's no word of when they will be resolved.

Sony's PlayStation Network Status website shows the problem as having started around 6:30 PM on Friday, February 26. Certain games are impacted by the outage, meaning you may not be able to launch them or, if they do launch, you may not be able to access the game's network features.

As well, other apps may fail to launch or work properly, meaning you may not be able to watch YouTube with your console for a while, as an example. It's unclear whether any social features are impacted at this time, but assuming they are, you may experience issues with creating or joining parties and sending messages.

At the moment of writing this article, it is not clear how prevalent the problem is or what the problem is, and as noted it's also unclear when a solution will be live. Typically, these issues are resolved quickly, however, this has been going on for several hours at this point, which may suggest it's a larger problem that Sony may need more time to address.

Sony is currently working on resolving the problem with the gaming and social elements of PSN. You will just have to try to remain patient for now while Sony sorts it. You do not really need to do anything other than just sit tight and wait.

Sony has not addressed the outage on its official Twitter support page. It is still unclear how far along it may be toward a fix. Be sure to check back in the future for any updates we receive from Sony when they become available.
