PUBG: New State crosses 10 million downloads on Google Play Store amid average ratings

Krafton's new PUBG: New State got off to a rocky start, thanks to a myriad of issues and glitches.

Story highlights
  • PUBG: New State is now available to download on Android and iOS.
  • It has crossed 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store.
  • But the ratings of the game are disappointing right now.

PUBG: New State has finally arrived in India and elsewhere, although the launch was marred by one too many issues. Krafton said it took several hours for maintenance to resolve those issues, and they seem to have done the job because PUBG: New State is now properly playable. As a result, people are downloading the game more than before, so much so that PUBG: New State has crossed 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

This should be considered a big feat for Krafton because the launch of PUBG: New State did not go as expected. Considering the new game comes from the company that has given the world blockbusters such as PUBG and PUBG Mobile, PUBG: New State's debut was rocky to say the least. Krafton may have miscalculated the influx for PUBG: New State, resulting in a myriad of problems. The launch of the game was scheduled for 9.30 am IST on Thursday, but Krafton had to delay it by two hours. But even after the launch that happened at 11.30 am, PUBG: New State was full of bugs.

That is the reason why PUBG: New State has disappointing ratings of 3.7 (at the time of writing) on the Google Play Store despite that big download number. The App Store listing, on the other hand, says there are not enough ratings to show an average yet. So, even though the game reached a milestone for itself by surpassing the 10 million mark, it could not get the warm welcome it needed.

PUBG: New State brings advanced features and new ways to kill enemies, but the battle royale genre has evolved so much over the past few years. PUBG is no longer the only game catering to that genre. Titles such as Garena Free Fire MAX give users the option to customise maps and even weapons, so PUBG: New State is going to be a tough sell as far as popularity and ratings are concerned if the bugs keep emerging. Krafton, however, has assured that it will work to provide a better gaming experience.

"We sincerely apologize for not being able to meet your expectations or provide a great gaming experience. You can now check the rewards and currencies that were unobtainable in your inventory. We will continuously work to provide a better gaming experience," said PUBG: New State's Twitter handle on Friday.

For what it is worth, PUBG: New State comes across as a promising battle royale game that I enjoyed playing. I wrote all about my first impression, mentioning that while there are a few new things that make the game a bit exciting, PUBG Mobile and Battlegrounds Mobile India players will not find many differences. Whether Krafton manages to bring oomph to PUBG: New State is something only time will tell.
