Shares of Tata Motors advanced on Jun 19 after the Tata group firm said its arm Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and China's Chery have signed a letter of intent to develop electric vehicles in China. Under the contract, JLR will license the Freelander brand to Cherry-JLR (CJLR) – a 50:50 joint venture between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery Automobile Company, for creation of electric vehicles in China. JLR’s Freelander brand was a Land Rover vehicle which was successfully produced between 1997 and 2015. It was succeeded by the Discovery Sport in 2016. In reborn CJLR form, Freelander would be offering a range of mainstream electric vehicles, initially sold in China through a distinct network but over time destined for global export.
