Japanese City Nagoya Flooded Just 10 Days Before Asian Games Opening 2026, Athletes Evacuated

Just 10 days before the 2026 Asian Games are set to begin, severe flooding hit Nagoya and surrounding areas in central Japan after record rainfall. Roads and residential areas were submerged, public transport was disrupted and nearly 3,500 residents were moved to emergency shelters. Around 400 athletes and team officials who had already arrived for the Games were also relocated as a precaution. While some buildings reported roof leaks, authorities said there was no major damage to the venues earmarked for the Asian Games. The continental sporting event is scheduled to begin on September 19 and continue until October 4 across Nagoya and neighboring areas.
