Potholes, garbage, and gridlock — India’s Silicon Valley is making headlines again, but not for innovation. Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw reignited Bengaluru’s infrastructure debate after sharing how an overseas guest was shocked by the city’s poor roads and garbage piles. Tagging top Karnataka leaders — CM Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, and Priyank Kharge — Shaw urged urgent action, saying the city needed focus and accountability. But her comments drew sharp reactions. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar shot back, asking where Shaw had been for 25 years, while Industries Minister MB Patil suggested she use her company’s CSR funds to fix her area first. Veteran tech leader Mohandas Pai came to Shaw’s defence, saying Karnataka’s priorities had shifted from development to politics — even as states like Andhra Pradesh attract major investments like Google’s AI data centre. The BJP has also accused the Congress-led government of ignoring Bengaluru’s real problems.
