The language war has reignited in Tamil Nadu. Sources reveal that the MK Stalin government had drafted a bill to ban the imposition of Hindi, including restrictions on Hindi hoardings, songs, and movies. Legal consultations were held late Tuesday night, but following widespread outrage, the government has reportedly put the bill on hold. The BJP slammed the move as “absurd” and “politically motivated,” accusing the DMK of diverting attention from the Foxconn investment controversy. This comes months after the state replaced the ₹ symbol with the Tamil letter ‘ru’ in its Budget logo, a move that drew flak from the Centre. The latest episode underscores Tamil Nadu’s deep-rooted language and identity politics.
