Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran spoke to India Today’s Gaurav Sawant about India’s manufacturing growth, Atmanirbhar Bharat and the country’s long-term economic vision. Nageswaran said manufacturing’s share of GVA has risen from around 14% to 16.1% in constant-price terms over the last three years. He highlighted PLI schemes, energy availability, skilling, free trade agreements, lower customs duties on inputs and tax measures as key steps supporting manufacturing. On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role, Nageswaran described him as the “architect” of India’s economic and manufacturing policy, infrastructure push and emphasis on self-reliance, while linking these efforts to India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 aspirations.
