BRICS countries are rapidly expanding their role in global trade, with merchandise exports rising from around $900 billion in 2003 to nearly $6 trillion in 2024. Their share of global exports has also increased from about 12% to nearly 24%. Speaking on the growing importance of BRICS, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of India, highlighted the need to convert this momentum into stronger intra-BRICS trade, resilient supply chains and greater opportunities for businesses. The expanding BRICS market presents significant potential for deeper economic cooperation, wider market access and stronger trade links among member countries in the years ahead.
