Delhi's Satya Niketan Building Collapse: 7 Dead | New Ashok Nagar Safety Crisis

At least seven people are dead after a building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, raising serious questions about the safety of ageing and structurally vulnerable buildings across the national capital. In this ground report, we look beyond the collapse site to examine what lies just steps away: a tilted building supported by iron pillars, which was evacuated after concerns over its condition, and other dilapidated structures showing cracks, damaged roofs and signs of neglect. Just ten steps from the collapse site, two buildings reportedly house 60–70 students, with one staircase serving multiple occupants. The premises reportedly have 18 electricity meters, six water meters, a broken and leaking roof, foundation cracks and extremely limited ventilation. Nearby, a hostel board has reportedly been removed following the incident. Our investigation also takes us to New Ashok Nagar on the Delhi-Noida border, where cracked homes, dilapidated structures and alleged illegal construction highlight a wider urban safety concern. The contrast between well-maintained properties and visibly damaged buildings is impossible to ignore. How many warnings and tragedies will it take before authorities and residents act?
