Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has issued an urgent call to action regarding India’s road safety crisis. With 5 lakh accidents and 1.8 lakh deaths annually, Gadkari highlighted that the youth aged 18 to 34 are the most affected, causing an immense loss to the nation’s human capital and 3% of its GDP. Sharing his own survival story from a tragic accident, the Minister emphasized the need for better road engineering, stricter enforcement, and improved automobile safety features like six airbags. He urged mobility platforms like Uber to join the mission, as India aims to curb accidents amidst the rapidly growing cab sector.
