The Trump administration has suspended Microsoft and several other firms from a programme that allows employers to seek green cards for foreign workers, escalating its crackdown on employment-based immigration. Announcing the move, US Vice President JD Vance accused companies of using the system to replace American workers with foreign labour, which he described as “foreign indentured servants.” Vance claimed Microsoft had used the programme more than any other US company. The development has raised fresh questions about the future of foreign-worker hiring in the United States, including its potential implications for Indian professionals and the IT sector. Amazon remains the largest H-1B visa employer in the US.
