Your favourite whisky or rum could taste different soon! Diageo is changing the formulation of some of its popular liquor brands after action by India’s food safety regulator FSSAI. Royal Challenge and Antiquity Blue whisky faced restrictions in Madhya Pradesh, while McDowell’s No.1 Celebration Matured XXX Rum faced action in Maharashtra. The issue centres around added flavouring and labelling rules. Now, Diageo has agreed to reformulate the affected products, removing the flavourings flagged by the regulator. The company will also make front-of-pack labels clearer while the transition happens. Importantly, the changes are expected to apply across India, not just the states where restrictions were imposed. Government sources say the bans could be dropped once the agreed changes are implemented. Here’s what it means for your favourite liquor brands.
