Lok Sabha polls: Arun Jaitley loses in Amritsar

The BJP may be recording extraordinary successes across the country, but one of its top leaders, Arun Jaitley has lost the Amritsar parliamentary seat. He lost by 94,000 votes to former chief minister of Punjab and Congress candidate, Capt Amarinder Singh. In 2009, this seat was held by BJP's Navjot Singh Sidhu.  

At 4:05 PM conceding his defeat, Jaitely tweeted: Congratulations to Capt. Amarinder Singh for his victory in Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency.

Jaitley's loss could be a gain for BJP President Rajnath Singh a chance to be No. 2 after Modi in the govt.  As per top BJP sources, Singh might get the Home ministry, Nitin Gadkari Defence, Sushma Swaraj External Affairs and Venkaiah Naidu, Petroleum.
