Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kerala

Padmanabhaswamy temple is not only India's but world's richest temple. It is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerela. After the Supreme Court of India took over the management of the temple in 2011, the secret chambers were ordered to open. The vaults inside the temple were found to be flooded with gold, silver and diamonds. Some people estimate the value of the treasure to be worth 1 trillion dollars.

Tirumala Tirupati Venkateswara Temple, Andhra Pradesh

Venkateswara temple is visited by fifty thousand to hundred thousand people daily, and the number shoots up to five hundred thousand during special festivals and occasions which make it one of the most sacred and visited temples in the world. Each year the temple treasury gets over $6 million by selling hair of devotees at public auction. The Tirumala temple has gold reserves and 52 tonnes of gold ornaments which are worth over Rs 37,000 crore as per latest estimates. The temple makes 150,000 laddus each day that garners over 11 million rupees revenue annually.

Sai baba Temple, Shirdi

The idol of the saint sits on a 94-kg gold throne costing a whopping Rs. 100 million.

Siddhivinayak, Mumbai

Credited as Mumbai city's richest temple, Siddhivinayak witnesses around twenty five thousand to two lakh worshipers visiting the place each day.  A businessman from Kolkata had donated the gold coated dome over Lord Ganesha which weighs over 3.7 kilos. With an annual income of more than 100 cr and 125 crores in fixed deposits, it is easily one of the richest temples in India.

Meenakshi Amman Temple, Tamil Nadu

Meenakshi temple is located in the temple city of Madurai. The enormous temple receives around one million visitors during its annual 10-day Meenakshi Tirukalyanam festival, which is celebrated through April and May, and gets richer by six crores or 60 million rupees every year. The temple houses two golden sculptured vimanas and an estimated 33,000 sculptures.

Jagannath Temple, Puri

The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath of Puri - also known as Daridra Narayana. It has a net worth of 250 crore with an annual income of 50 crore. The temple, which has been attacked 18 times since the 12th century for its treasury, has 7 chambers out of which only 2 have been opened by temple authorities.

Vaishno Devi, Jammu and Kashmir

Located near Katra in Jammu district, this is the second most visited religious shrine after the Tirupati temple. The temple's revenue has increased during the last few years, as the number of pilgrims has risen. The temple has an annual income of around Rs 500 crore.

The Golden Temple, Punjab

Located in Amritsar, the temple is visisted by over 100,000 people every day. The gold-coated building of Sri Harmandir Sahib becomes a uniquely charming place at night when the whole place is lit up. The 'Adi Granth' (Guru Granth Sahib) has a silver canopy, adorned with several precious stones. It's supported by silver poles. Despite the fact that the total temple assets remain unknown, experts claim that the Golden Temple is one of the wealthiest temples in India.

Somnath Temple, Gujarat

The Somnath Temple's assets remain a mystery but it's hailed as one of the richest and has got a long spanning history. The name 'Somnath' translates into 'The Protector of the Moon God' that comes from the belief that the sacred temple was built with gold by the Moon God in honour of Lord Shiva. In 2012, two businessmen from Surat and Mumbai donated 36 kg gold worth around 11 crore to the temple.

Kashi Vishwanath temple, Uttar Pradesh

One of the oldest abode of Lord Shiva, Kashi Vishwanath is located in Varanasi. The temple's noteworthy spires and domes are made of pure gold. Though the temple's assets has not been made public,  in the year 2005, a former priest had accused the temple management of hiding 99 kg in gold and other temple properties.
