436.5 km on a single charge, and not on a closed test track! American manufacturer Zero Motorcycles' DS electric motorcycle has reportedly set a Guinness World Record after Belgian rider Jelle Verstraeten completed an extraordinary journey through France and Italy. The ride took him across public roads, mountain stretches and villages towards the Mediterranean coast, challenging the idea that electric motorcycles are only suitable for short commutes.

The Zero DS didn't just break the previous record. It reportedly smashed it by 125.82 km! The earlier benchmark belonged to the Verge TS Pro, which covered 310.68 km on a single charge. Zero's achievement represents an improvement of roughly 40%. Even more striking, the DS reportedly maintained an average speed of 51 km/h, compared with approximately 19 km/h during the previous record-setting ride.

Battery secret

How did a motorcycle with a claimed city range of 249 km manage to travel 436.5 km without recharging? The secret was partly hidden inside its battery setup. Zero fitted a factory-approved Power Tank accessory, increasing battery capacity from 15.6 kWh to 19.2 kWh. The rider also used regenerative braking on downhill stretches to recover energy. However, this carefully managed record ride should not be mistaken for the motorcycle's everyday range.

Rainy finale

The final 97 km brought an unexpected challenge: heavy rain. After travelling hundreds of kilometres through France and Italy, Jelle Verstraeten had to battle wet roads while protecting his record attempt. To verify the achievement, the motorcycle's charging port was reportedly sealed before departure, and two GPS trackers monitored the journey. According to the report, a Guinness World Records representative checked the tracking data before confirming the record.
