Budget bombshell
Imagine buying a new electric car for less than ₹10 lakh, with a claimed driving range of up to 420 km! Chinese EV giant BYD has launched the new-generation Seagull in China at a starting price of 65,900 yuan, approximately ₹9.33 lakh. The affordable electric hatchback gets major upgrades, but there's a catch for Indian buyers: its India launch remains unconfirmed.

Size shock
BYD's smallest electric car has grown considerably. The new Seagull measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, making it 425 mm longer than the previous model. Its wheelbase has increased to 2,650 mm, while the cabin now accommodates five passengers instead of four. The boot also offers 1,380 litres of space with the rear seats folded.

Charging magic
Running out of battery could become less stressful with the new BYD Seagull. The electric hatchback offers two Blade battery options, 30.1 kWh and 39.2 kWh, with claimed driving ranges of 320 km and 420 km, respectively. The larger battery also supports flash charging, which the supplied details say can take the charge level from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. However, this charging capability is not available with the smaller battery.

Cabin revolution
Don't let the affordable price fool you. BYD has packed the new Seagull with features normally associated with more expensive cars. Buyers get a 15.6-inch touchscreen, DiLink 150 smart cockpit, a six-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, 50W wireless phone charging and a 127-colour ambient lighting system. The hatchback also offers front-seat ventilation and heating, giving its budget-friendly positioning an unexpected premium twist.

Safety surprise
BYD isn't relying on price and range alone to attract buyers. The new Seagull comes with LiDAR-based advanced driver assistance technology, modern driving features and a tyre-stability system designed to help keep the vehicle stable after a tyre failure. It also gets six airbags and a reinforced body structure. With 114 hp and 127 hp motor options, this compact electric car is trying to offer much more than basic city transportation.
