Sensex, Nifty open lower; UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, PowerGrid, IndiGo top losers 

Sensex fell 300 pts to 77,779 and Nifty slipped 65 pts to 24,330. Market cap of BSE-listed firms stood at Rs 492.88 lakh crore.

Sensex, Nifty open lower; UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, PowerGrid, IndiGo top losers  UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, PowerGrid, IndiGo, Trent and Asian Paints were the top Sensex losers, falling up to 1.20%.

Stock market today: Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened lower on Friday amid mixed global cues. In Asia, Hang Seng was down 230 pts and Nikkei zoomed 518 pts. Overnight US market closed marginally higher. Meanwhile, Sensex fell 300 pts to 77,779 and Nifty slipped 65 pts to 24,330. Market cap of BSE-listed firms stood at Rs 492.88 lakh crore.

Stocks such as Bajaj Finance, Eternal, TCS, Titan and L&T were the top Sensex gainers today, rising up to 0.56%.

UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, PowerGrid, IndiGo, Trent and Asian Paints were the top Sensex losers, falling up to 1.20%.

Meanwhile, brent crude oil prices were trading below the $90 per barrel mark. It stood at $87.16 per barrel on Friday.

Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited said, “The range bound nature of the market is likely to continue in the near-term. Nifty has been consolidating between 23800 and 24400 without any triggers for a breakout above the upper band or a breakdown below the lower band. Nifty was poised for a breakout above the upper band, but this was foiled by spurt in crude to above $91 triggered by the absence of an expected deal between US and Iran."

Previous session 

Benchmark indices ended on a mixed note. BSE Sensex rose 113.61 points (0.15%) to close at 78,079.96, while the Nifty50 fell 40.10 points (0.16%) to close at 24,395.85.
