- Xiaomi to bring the first smartphone with Snapdragon Sound support.
- Audio-Technica also confirmed to bring products featuring new Qualcomm tech.
- Qualcomm has confirmed a collaboration with Amazon Music as well.
Qualcomm has unveiled its latest Snapdragon Sound technology which plans to improve audio quality delivered via wireless earphones and other devices. The company says that the Snapdragon Sound will deliver high-quality music, crystal-clear calls, and a lag-free gaming experience. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon Sound has been designed to deliver a robust and seamless wireless listening experience by supporting high-resolution 24-bit 96kHz audio, ultra-low latency, improved pairing, and crystal-clear voice quality.
Giving an example of how the company plans to fix end-to-end latency challenges, Qualcomm says Snapdragon Sound can support Bluetooth latencies as low as 89 milliseconds (45% lower than a leading competitor) for more immersive gaming and a better video watching experience.
The company adds that Snapdragon Sound incorporates the Qualcomm Aqstic DAC, which is designed to support formats of up to 384kHz 32-bit PCM and DSD with ultra-low THD+N.
Qualcomm's latest attempt to fix the wireless audio experience comes at a time when Spotify is also planning to bring a Hi-Fi audio experience later this year for its members. It's worth mentioning that Amazon Music already offers HD streaming quality.
Qualcomm lists that the new Snapdragon Sound will be available for flagship Snapdragon 8-series processors. The Snapdragon Sound will offer multiple features from Qualcomm suite of audio features including FastConnect 6900 mobile connectivity system, Qualcomm QCC514x, QCC515x and QCC3056 series Bluetooth Audio SoCs, Qualcomm Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) technology, Qualcomm aptX Adaptive, Qualcomm aptX voice super wideband voice, Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec and smart speaker amplifier WCD938x and WSA883x.
Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will be one of the first smartphone manufacturers to bring the Snapdragon Sound to its devices. Similarly, Audio-Technica has also confirmed upcoming products featuring the new audio tech from Qualcomm.
Announcing the new Snapdragon Sound, James Chapman, vice president and general manager, Voice, Music and Wearables, Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd said, "Qualcomm Technologies is uniquely positioned to provide tremendous value to customers with Snapdragon Sound and help them quickly commercialize products differentiated by great sound quality. Our system-level approach aggregates multiple technologies and the latest products from across our mobile and audio platform portfolios to achieve our vision of delivering high-resolution, wired quality audio wirelessly."
