Saudi Arabia is facing a fresh escalation in its conflict with Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels after a deadly attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Saudi authorities reported that 12 people were killed and 309 injured in the October 10 strike, the third attack on the airport in a week. Earlier attacks had also hit airports in Riyadh and Abha. The attack drew condemnation from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who called for strikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure to stop immediately. US President Donald Trump described the attack as “terrible”, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the strikes “reprehensible”. The Houthis have warned that Saudi airports and other facilities could remain targets, raising concerns about further escalation across West Asia.
