At an Indian community event in Auckland, Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India has transformed from a “fragile five” economy to one of the world’s top five and is on track to become the third-largest economy by 2027–28, with GDP projected to reach $32 trillion by 2047, up from $4 trillion today. Highlighting India’s youthful demographic dividend with an average age of 28.5 years and over 1 billion internet users, he said growing aspirations are driving economic momentum. Goyal credited decisive leadership, strong democratic institutions, demand, and global engagement, noting India’s recent FTAs with Mauritius, UAE, Australia, EFTA, and UK, and ongoing talks with the EU, US, Oman, Chile, Peru, and Bahrain.
