BRICS Has Talked Enough. Now It’s Time For Action: Kalpana Ajayan

BRICS now needs to move beyond discussions and translate intent into action, says Kalpana Ajayan, Regional Head – South Asia, Women’s World Banking. Speaking with Business Today's Group Editor Siddharth Zarabi at the India Today BRICS Roundtable, Ajayan said the policy environment, political will, capital flows and public infrastructure needed to support entrepreneurship are increasingly in place. The next challenge, she said, is to move capabilities and opportunities across markets and give entrepreneurs the confidence to expand beyond their domestic economies. Ajayan highlighted awareness, capability building and resilience as key requirements, along with instruments such as credit guarantees to build risk appetite at the institutional level. She stressed that governments, institutions and individual entrepreneurs must work together to create an ecosystem that can convert BRICS’ existing opportunities into action.
