Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks in Maharashtra calling on women to break free from the “shackles of Manusmriti. Speaking on the issue, CM Yogi questioned Rahul Gandhi’s approach to India’s traditions, heritage and constitutional responsibilities. He said that as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi has a responsibility towards the country’s democracy and had taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of India. Yogi Adityanath also accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly making controversial remarks about Uttar Pradesh and India, both within the country and abroad. He further raised issues including the Congress party’s position on Lord Shri Ram and Ayodhya, as well as its role during the Emergency of 1975. Addressing Rahul Gandhi’s comments about Manu, CM Yogi suggested that those seeking to understand Manu and the historical context surrounding him should study ancient Indian texts, including the Atharvaveda, Shatapatha Brahmana and Matsya Purana. The remarks come amid an ongoing political debate over Manusmriti, social justice, women’s rights, India’s cultural heritage and the Constitution.
