Maharashtra has imposed a complete ban on analogue cheese, becoming the second state after Chhattisgarh to outlaw its manufacture, storage, transport, sale and distribution. The government has also announced strict penalties for violators, including up to six months in jail and fines of up to ₹1 lakh. In cases where unsafe food leads to death, offenders could face life imprisonment and a minimum fine of ₹10 lakh. The move aims to protect consumers from imitation dairy products and strengthen food safety standards across the state.
